Peace Arch Dialogues
In this 250th year of the United States, we remind ourselves of sacrifices and challenges in creating and sustaining democracy, Constitutional order, and special relationships between people, Americans and Canadians. Through the Peace Arch Dialogues we rededicate ourselves to our relationships and responsibilities to each other, transboundary waters, and the earth’s survivable climate.
The Peace Arch Dialogues, with a focus on people living near the international border, will focus on our shared waters, air, and landscapes.
We further recognize that dialogue and ethics are foundational to enduring solutions to transboundary challenges facing people living in North America — now and into the future.
The Peace Arch Dialogues will combine people-to-people discussions led by subject matter experts. Topics will include law and history, US-Canadian relations, environment, and ethics. The meetings will be open to the public.
Goals:
– Improve understanding of what is at stake for our shared environment, including transboundary waters such as the Great Lakes, Columbia River, and Yukon River;
– create and strengthen transboundary networks and relationships; and
– coordinate action to protect our shared environment in border states and provinces.
Organizational Hosts and Planning Committee:
- Sierra Club’s Columbia River Team
- North American Youth Parliament for Water
- Oregon State University
